Two security guards manning businesses behind Telkom Plaza in Kisumu CBD were killed by thugs who raided the premises on Saturday night making away with goods worth an unknown amount.

Confirming the incident Kisumu Central Sub-County Deputy police commander Jackton Mango said that the guards were hit with a blunt object on their heads, killing them on the spot as the thugs proceeded to break into three electronic shops during the 3 am incident.

“It seems like they were attacked when they were asleep because they were found sitting on their chairs,” said Mango.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching & Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.

Mango has also assured area residents that they will upscale security patrols “to ensure that people in Kisumu conduct their businesses in peace.”

CCTV footage seen by Ramogi FM showed the thugs who were covered in masks using metal crowbars and forcefully gaining entry into the shops before fleeing with several laptops in sacks.

The area has since been processed and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have taken over the case for further investigations.
