National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula is today leading a delegation of national and county leaders to Butere Constituency for a socio-economic empowerment drive targeting women groups and boda boda operators.

The event, hosted by Butere Member of Parliament and National Assembly Public Accounts Committee Chair Tindi Mwale, is being held under his community development banner, #JeshiLaTutam.

Scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2026, starting at 9:30 a.m., the initiative aims to strengthen local livelihoods by supporting women-led cooperatives and informal sector enterprises, with a particular focus on small-scale traders and boda boda associations.

The empowerment programme is taking place at the Butere Girls Hockey Ground, which has been turned into the main venue for the multi-million-shilling outreach activity.

Among the senior leaders accompanying Speaker Wetang’ula are Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Farouk Kibet, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed.

Also expected to attend are Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, and Trade Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, among other national and regional leaders.

The empowerment drive is part of a broader push by leaders to stimulate grassroots economic growth by channelling resources, equipment, and financial support to organised community groups, particularly in the informal sector, which remains a key driver of local economies in western Kenya.
