The Ministry of Education has announced that the application portal for scholarships and loans for students entering universities and TVET institutions will officially open on Tuesday, June 18.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu stated in a press release that the applications under the Student-Centered Funding Model for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort were initially scheduled to open on Saturday, June 15.

However, due to adjustments made to the national calendar, the ministry decided to postpone the opening to June 18.

“However, on June 14th, 2024, the Government declared Monday, June 17th, 2024 a public holiday to mark Eid Al-Adha. Consequently, in solidarity with our Muslim fraternity, the Ministry of Education decided to move the portal opening date from Saturday, June 15th, 2024 to Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 to allow Kenyans ample time to prepare and celebrate Eid Al-Adha,” said Machogu.

Parents and students have been assured that there will be sufficient time for all eligible students to apply for the funding. On July 31, 2023, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu launched the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal, where applications for scholarships, loans, and bursaries will be submitted individually after receiving admission letters.

The model aims to direct higher education funds directly to individual students based on carefully curated criteria.

To be eligible to apply, individuals must have been placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to pursue an undergraduate, diploma, craft certificate, or artisan course at one of Kenya’s accredited public universities or TVET colleges.

Here is a step-by-step guideline on how to apply.
