A Kenyan university student has become the subject of a viral video after her friend alleged she walked out of a house rented by her parents and moved in with her boyfriend, where she took on full domestic responsibilities at her own expense.

The video shows what appears to be a cluttered bedroom, with clothes and personal items strewn across the space.

What Friend Allegedly Found

In the video shared by Nairobi Express, the woman behind the camera explains that she came to check on her friend and found the situation deeply concerning.

According to the narrator, the student’s parents had paid for her own rental accommodation near campus so she could study comfortably.

Instead, she reportedly left that house and moved in with her Kisii boyfriend. Once there, she allegedly took over all wifely duties, including cooking, cleaning and buying household shopping out of her own pocket.

All this happened while her boyfriend went to class as normal and returned home to find everything already handled.

The friend who filmed the video described herself as visiting to check on her companion, only to encounter the messy room and a situation she found deeply troubling.

Conversation on Campus Relationships

Her tone mixed concern with disbelief as she questioned why a student whose parents had gone to great lengths to provide stable housing would choose to spend her time and money running someone else’s home.

She added that the student’s parents had not been informed of the arrangement and appealed directly to viewers to weigh in on whether her friend’s behaviour was acceptable.

The footage struck a nerve online, with many viewers recognising the scenario as one that plays out quietly on campuses across Kenya.

They disclosed that some students trade their independence for relationships that place them in domestic roles far removed from the academic purpose of their stay.
