An Akorino man caught the attention of residents outside Huruma Primary School on Thursday, July 16, 2026, after he broke into loud prayers during the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election. The man decided that regular security was not enough for the high-stakes parliamentary mini-poll, prompting him to call for divine reinforcement.
Surrounded by a small crowd outside the gates of the polling station, the unidentified believer chanted loudly in a mix of Gĩkũyũ and English, asking God to send Presiding Officers from above so that the election is not rigged.
A video captured during the early morning prayer shows onlookers responding as the man commanded spiritual intervention over the voting process.
Divine polling clerks
The man’s prayer stood out because he chose to address the spiritual equivalent of election officials. In the clip, he is heard asking for a parallel, heavenly oversight team to take charge of the entire exercise.
“And presiding officers of heaven! And even agents of heaven! So that the votes we are casting will not be stolen!” he shouted to the crowd in Gĩkũyũ, who enthusiastically answered back in support.
His petitions did not stop at the polling clerks. The man went ahead to summon a celestial security detail to keep watch over the area, asking for spiritual soldiers to guard the facility against any mischief. He specifically asked that these heavenly forces protect the ballot box and ensure no votes are stolen or altered.
Shielding the ballot
The prayer also targeted common vices associated with Kenyan political contests. The man vocally rejected voter bribery, locally referred to as ‘koe’, and physical blockades that might lock out legitimate voters, chanting “We refuse blocks and obstacles! We refuse bribery and corruption!”
His loud petitions came at a time when voters in Ol Kalou turned out to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of their previous legislator. Tensions are often high in such mini-polls, making the man’s spiritual intervention a welcome break for the anxious locals.

For the everyday Kenyan watching the clip, the combination of deep religious devotion and modern political jargon provided a light moment. While his delivery was serious, the imagery of heavenly presiding officers and party agents auditing the ballot papers left many amused.
