President William Ruto visited the Mathare area to survey the aftermath of the ongoing heavy floods.

President Ruto addressed residents on Monday, May 6, announcing a stipend for all flood victims in Nairobi. He stated that the Kenya Kwanza government would provide KSh 10,000 to each of the 40,000 households displaced by floods. The aid is intended to assist them in securing alternative accommodation for three months while the government works towards finding a lasting solution.

“We have 40,000 households who were affected during the evacuation for safety reasons. Every household will receive Sh10,000 to look for alternative housing. We will give them the money for their 3-month rent as the Government looks for another alternative,” Ruto announced.

Accompanied by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, PS Raymond Omollo, and Housing counterpart Charles Hinga, the president also mentioned that the government would soon award the tender for 5,000 affordable housing units in Kiamaiko.
