Tanzanian singer Zuchu has explained why she believes she deserves recognition among Africa’s biggest female artists, including South African star Tyla and Nigerian singer Ayra Starr.

Speaking in an interview posted on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Sukari hitmaker argued that an artist’s achievements should be considered in the context of their country and the progress they have made in the music industry.

When asked whether she felt it was right for people to place her in the same conversation as international stars, including Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, Zuchu confidently defended her position.

“Of course. Kwa nchi niliyotokea kabisa. Who do you guys have?”she responded, suggesting that her standing should be assessed in the context of the music industry she represents.

She used Diamond Platnumz as an example of an East African artiste whose success has earned him recognition beyond the region.

Zuchu noted that when people are asked to name a leading artist from Tanzania, Diamond is an obvious choice because of the career he has built over the years.

“He worked for it,” she said, referring to Diamond’s achievements and his standing in East African music.

The singer argued that she deserved consideration whenever major international shows or events seek one female artist to represent a country.

Using that example, she questioned why she should be excluded from conversations about leading female artists when Tanzania needs someone to represent it on a major platform.

“Don’t you think I deserve the space?” she asked during the discussion.

She acknowledged that placing herself alongside artists such as Ayra Starr was one thing, but insisted that her name also deserved to be mentioned among the biggest artists.

“Lakini kusema I deserve kutamkwa kwenye majina makubwa, I do,” she said, meaning that she deserved to be mentioned among major names in the music industry.

Diamond Platnumz as an example

Zuchu also highlighted the importance of long-term growth and strategy in building a successful music career.
