About 100 “young criminals” surrendered to police authorities in Likoni, Mombasa County on Monday.
The youths vowed to abandon their criminal activities during a ceremony held at Nikodem Hall led by Coast regional Police Commander Ali Nuno.
“They promised to refrain from their criminal activities including robbery, stealing and terrorism,” read a report in part.
The reformists claimed they were being used politically as leaders manipulated them during campaigns to achieve their needs and then abandoned them after polls, leaving them with limited options to eke out a living.
One of the survivors pointed out that their main problem was a lack of proper relationship with the police.
Commander Nuno promised to help them to get alternative sustenance means while the civil society urged them to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions which would be catered by the County Government through HELB loans.
The county government also promised to provide qualified individuals with job opportunities.
