In a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday, November 2, 2025, the officers from Nyacheki Police Station, acting on public intelligence, raided a homestead in the Riomoru area of Nyacheki Location, where the illegal brew was found.

The operation was led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Chief Inspector Peter Ekuthi, who confirmed that the suspect was found in possession of approximately 11 litres of chang’aa concealed inside his house.

The service further noted that the successful seizure was part of a broader countrywide operation aimed at dismantling the networks behind the manufacture and sale of unregulated alcohol that continues to harm lives and livelihoods.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to combating illicit alcohol throughout the country,” the statement added.

Authorities say the latest operation follows growing public complaints about the proliferation of chang’aa dens in parts of Kisii, which have been linked to rising cases of insecurity, health complications, and social breakdown in rural communities.

Police have urged residents to continue sharing intelligence to help security agencies identify and dismantle the illegal networks behind the illicit trade.

This latest seizure adds to a string of similar operations in the region in recent weeks, as the government steps up efforts to curb the production and distribution of illegal alcohol that has claimed dozens of lives across the country.
