Police in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County have launched a probe after a 13-year-old Grade 8 pupil died by suicide at Changina area.

According to Trans Mara East Sub-county Police boss Boniface Kavoo, the body of the deceased was found hanging from one of the tree branches inside their homestead with a rope tied around his neck.

Mr Kavoo said the deceased, who was a pupil at Changina Primary School, allegedly quarreled with his elder brother before his body was found by his mother after he raised suspicion as to why he hadn’t turned up for breakfast on time as usual.

“We visited the scene, the body had no physical injuries apart from a few bruises on the neck where the rope gripped. We also didn’t find any suicide note at the scene,” added the police boss.

The mother of the deceased wasn’t able to explain the horror she witnessed, terming the incident as unfortunate considering her son had no personal difference with any member of the family.

Police processed the scene before they moved the body to Kapkatet Hospital morgue.

  • Football history was made this weekend as Barcelona’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, etched his name into the La Liga record books. At just 17 years old, the winger became the youngest player ever to successfully convert a penalty in the Spanish top flight. It was a landmark moment for the youngster, who continues to break barriers and set new standards with every appearance. However, the celebrations did not come without controversy. The decision to award Yamal the penalty has come under intense scrutiny, not just because of the challenge itself, but due to an extraordinary twist of fate: the VAR system at the stadium went offline. In a league where video technology has become crucial in determining key moments, this sudden failure meant the referee’s decision had to stand without any review. Fans across Spain were left divided. Some argued that the foul on Yamal was clear enough for the referee to point to the spot, while others believe the challenge was soft and would have been overturned had VAR been functional. The incident has sparked debates not only about the validity of the penalty but also about La Liga’s reliance on technology and what happens when that technology fails. In the post-match press conference, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso was asked for his opinion on the penalty and the bizarre VAR malfunction. With a smile and a laugh, he dodged the controversy, replying: “Lamine Yamal’s penalty & VAR not working? I knew you were going to ask me that! No comments!” His lighthearted response did little to cool the flames of debate, as pundits and fans alike continued to argue the fairness of the decision. For Yamal, the moment was historic regardless of the surrounding controversy. To step up under such pressure, with the weight of expectation and the knowledge that he was writing history, was a testament to his composure and maturity beyond his years. Many young players might have crumbled, but Yamal thrived, tucking away the penalty with confidence and sending the crowd into raptures. Still, the question lingers: was it truly a penalty? Some former referees interviewed on Spanish television admitted that the contact was minimal, suggesting that VAR may well have overturned the call if the system had been available. Others, however, defended the referee’s decision, pointing out that attackers are entitled to protection in the box and that Yamal had every right to go down under the challenge. This episode adds yet another layer to the growing controversy around VAR in La Liga. Over the past seasons, fans have complained about inconsistencies, delays, and confusing explanations surrounding the technology. But rarely has there been a situation where the system simply went offline during a crucial decision. The league may now face pressure to investigate how such a failure occurred and whether backup systems should be implemented in the future. For Barcelona, the penalty and the subsequent goal will be remembered as a moment of triumph for their teenage prodigy. Yamal’s cool finish demonstrated why he is considered one of the brightest young stars in world football. Yet, the shadow of the VAR malfunction means his record-breaking moment will forever carry a trace of controversy. On the other side of the divide, rival fans—especially those from Real Madrid—have been quick to highlight the suspicious timing of the VAR collapse. Social media was flooded with accusations, memes, and conspiracy theories, further fueling the rivalry between Spain’s two giants. Whether fair or not, Yamal’s achievement has become yet another flashpoint in the eternal battle between the two clubs. What cannot be denied, however, is Yamal’s growing influence on Spanish football. To already be breaking records at 17 years old suggests that his career is only just beginning. The penalty may have sparked debate, but it also proved his ability to deliver in the spotlight. Over time, fans may forget the controversy and remember instead that this was the night the teenager made history. As the dust settles, one simple but loaded question remains: was it really a penalty? The answer depends on whom you ask. For Barcelona, it was justice. For their rivals, it was fortune. For Yamal, it was history. And for La Liga, it was a reminder that even in the age of technology, the beautiful game will always carry an element of human drama and controversy.
