Nineteen county government workers in Migori, part of a group of 93 employees with fake academic papers, have resigned as the county government begins its purge. Migori County Secretary Oscar Olima announced that he has received resignation letters from these 19 employees, who chose to leave rather than face action from the county and other relevant bodies.
Among the 93 workers found with fake primary and secondary certificates, 25 have written to the county public service board, requesting an opportunity to explain their side.
The board has granted them a chance to defend themselves before further action is taken. The county is also investigating workers with questionable college certificates as part of the ongoing purge on fake academic papers.
Olima emphasized that this exercise is not a witch hunt but is based on an audit report by the Human Resource Audit Institute in 2023 and a staff headcount report by the county government. The National Examination Council confirmed the fake primary and secondary school certificates after reviewing the academic papers of over 2,700 county employees.
All 93 workers with fake academic papers have been removed from the payroll while the public service board considers their explanations.
