The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced that a total of 2,279,414 candidates will participate in the national examinations this year. During the launch of the 2024 national examinations and assessments season on Friday, KNEC reassured Kenyans of a smooth examination process.
Specifically, KNEC will administer the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to 965,501 candidates across 10,565 centers. In addition, the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will be administered to 1,303,913 candidates in 35,573 centers, making for a total of over 2.2 million candidates nationwide.
KNEC CEO David Njengere announced that to ensure the smooth administration of these examinations, the council has acquired 41 new containers, increasing the total to 617 containers for the secure storage and transportation of examination materials.
The national examination calendar was confirmed by the government on September 4, as students commenced learning for the third term following a two-week interruption due to a teachers’ strike. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia stated that the examinations will run from October 18, 2024, to November 22, 2024.
– KCSE will begin with rehearsals on October 18, followed by formal examinations starting on October 22.
– KPSEA rehearsals will take place from October 25, with the actual examinations scheduled from October 28 to November 2024.
– Additionally, the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will occur concurrently during this timeframe as stipulated in the TSC directive.
To enhance examination integrity, TSC has also announced that examination supervisors will be rotated every two weeks to mitigate cheating and implement additional security measures.
