Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) seized a cache of suspected cocaine during a targeted operation in Buru Buru, Nairobi.

The raid, carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Unit in the early hours of Thursday, resulted in the recovery of 18 pellets suspected to be containing the highly addictive drug.

The operation, focused on a residence in Harambee estate, also yielded wads of cash in both local and foreign currencies totalling about Ksh2.2 million, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking.

“Detectives have recovered narcotic drugs suspected to be cocaine, in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking in the city,” the DCI announced.

Two individuals, identified as Curtis Muli and Teresa Achieng, were apprehended during the raid and are now in custody.

The concerted efforts of the Anti-Narcotics Unit extended beyond the primary target, leading to the search of an adjacent property suspected to be a stash house within the same vicinity.

“Also seized during the 6am raid were wads of cash in Kenya shillings and foreign currency, believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking. The cash included $12,601 USD, €15 Euros, Sh509, 495, Tsh24,000 and 10,000 Angolan Kwanza,” DCI added.

Among the items recovered from this location were three test tubes, a digital weighing machine, and an identification card belonging to Muli. The estimated weight of the confiscated suspected drugs is 0.244 grams.

Both suspects are currently being detained at Muthaiga police station as investigators proceed with thorough inquiries and evidence collection for their impending court appearance.

The operation follows hot on the heels of another successful raid in Ngara on Tuesday where a suspected key player in the illegal drug trade, identified as Mathe wa Ngara was arrested.

The woman is believed to be a key supplier of marijuana within the city.

The operation resulted in the recovery of a staggering Ksh13.4 Million in cash and the confiscation of 26 gunny bags packed with cannabis.
