Police have arrested two persons of interest and recovered 41 stolen animals in an operation carried out in the Bonji Dam area, Isiolo County.
In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday, August 31, 2025, officers stated that the recovery followed a report made at the Basa Police Post concerning livestock theft, which was reported a day earlier.
“Following a report made at Basa Police Post concerning livestock stolen from the Bonji Dam area on 30th August 2025, a multi-agency security team promptly responded to the incident. On Sunday, 31st August 2025, the security team successfully recovered forty-one animals, comprising 16 sheep and 25 goats, and arrested two male suspects in connection with the theft,” NPS said.
The police confirmed that the individuals are currently in custody, awaiting arraignment in court. At the same time, the recovered animals are being held at the Basa Police Post before being handed back to the rightful owner.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to working closely with local communities and security partners to combat banditry, protect lives, and safeguard property,” NPS added.
The recovery comes just days after another successful operation in Meru County, where police recovered at least 77 stolen cattle. According to NPS, the operation was conducted on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Tigania East.
“At approximately 11:00 p.m. yesterday, a well-coordinated security operation involving officers from Kangeta Police Station, the General Service Unit, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, the Rapid Deployment Unit, and National Police Reservists successfully recovered 77 cattle stolen earlier from two residents of Tigania East in Meru County,” the statement read.
The police said the recovery followed reports made by the victims at Kangeta Police Station, which prompted a swift multi-agency response.
“The operation was launched after the victims reported the theft at Kangeta Police Station, prompting a swift response. The team tracked the suspects and intercepted them near Ngato Dam,” NPS stated.
