2 arrested as police seize 110 litres of chang’aa and 270 rolls of bhang

Two people have been apprehended for being in possession of illegal alcohol and drugs during separate police operations in Kisumu and Machakos counties.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the service said the coordinated operations were carried out a day earlier, leading to the recovery of chang’aa, cannabis, and other items.

In Kisumu County, officers from Ahero Police Station, working together with the area Assistant Chief, conducted a targeted raid in Apondo Village. During the operation, one female person of interest was found with 110 litres of chang’aa and 70 rolls of a substance believed to be bhang. Officers also recovered a pair of military boots and ten strips of hippopotamus skin.

She was escorted to Ahero Police Station, where she is being held in custody awaiting arraignment in court.

“Officers from the National Police Service conducted coordinated operations yesterday in Kisumu and Machakos counties, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of illegal alcohol and drugs. In Apondo Village, Kisumu County, officers from Ahero Police Station – in collaboration with the area Assistant Chief – carried out a targeted raid,” the statement read in part.

Adding;

“One female suspect was arrested after she was found in possession of 110 litres of chang’aa, 70 rolls of a substance suspected to be bhang, one pair of military boots, and ten strip pieces suspected to be hippopotamus skin. The suspect was escorted to Ahero Police Station, where she is being held in custody pending arraignment in court.”

In Machakos County, officers from Kangundo Police Station acted on a tip-off from a member of the public. They carried out an operation at Syanthi Market in Kangundo Sub-County. One person of interest was found in possession of 200 rolls of a substance believed to be cannabis sativa. The drugs had been concealed in two black polythene bags and hidden inside a black jacket.

The items were seized as evidence, and the individual was taken to Kangundo Police Station for further investigation.

The National Police Service said it remains committed to the fight against illicit drugs and illegal alcohol and will continue carrying out operations to protect communities and uphold the law.

“In Machakos County, officers from Kangundo Police Station conducted an operation at Syanthi Market in Kangundo Sub-County, acting on a tip-off from a concerned member of the public. One suspect was arrested in possession of two hundred rolls of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa. The drugs had been concealed in two black polythene bags and hidden inside a black jacket. The items were seized as evidence, and the suspect was taken to Kangundo Police Station as investigations continue,” NPS stated.
