2 arrested as police seize haul of bhang and 37 litres of Chang’aa

Two people have been arrested in Rachuonyo West after police and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) carried out a major operation against illegal alcohol and narcotics.

According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS), on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the operation took place on November 25, 2025, in the Kakoth Kataa area of the sub-county.

Authorities recovered 94 rolls of cannabis and 37 litres of Chang’aa, a locally brewed spirit. The two are now in custody and will be arraigned in court to face relevant charges.

The law enforcement officers highlighted that the operation is part of wider efforts across the country to tackle the production, distribution, and sale of illicit substances, and similar actions are expected to continue.

“Police officers from Kendu Bay Police Station, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), conducted an intensive operation against illicit brews and narcotic drugs on 25th November 2025 in the Kakoth Kataa area of Rachuonyo West Sub-County,” the statement read in part.

Adding;

“During the operation, two suspects were arrested after being found in joint possession of 94 rolls of cannabis and 37 litres of Chang’aa. The suspects were placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to sustaining similar operations across the country, targeting individuals engaged in the production, distribution, and sale of illicit brews and narcotic substances.”

This comes days after police seized 500 litres of Kangara and 20 litres of Chang’aa during a raid in Kendu Bay, leading to the arrest of a person of interest.

According to the authorities, officers from Kendu Bay Police Station carried out the operation at a brewing site in Nyakwere Village, Kobuya East. The illegal alcohol, produced for distribution, posed serious health and safety risks to the community.

“Police in Rachuonyo North Sub-County have intensified their efforts to combat the production and distribution of illicit alcohol following a successful operation in the Kobuya East area. During the operation, officers from Kendu Bay Police Station raided a site in Nyakwere Village, where illicit liquor was being produced. They recovered 500 litres of Kangara and 20 litres of Chang’aa,” the police stated.
