Two people have been arrested in Obunga after a swift operation by police, following information provided by members of the public.
According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, officers from Obunga Police Station conducted an operation at the railway crossing along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road. During the operation, the two individuals were found with a machete, a knife, a pair of pliers, several bunches of keys, and a length of wire believed to be intended for use as a garotte.
“Acting on information from the public, officers from Obunga Police Station conducted an operation at the railway crossing along the Kisumu-Kakamega Road and arrested two individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities. The duo were found in possession of a machete, a knife, a pair of pliers, several bunches of keys, and a length of wire believed to be intended for use as a garotte,” the statement read in part.

The individuals were taken to the police station and are currently in custody as they await processing and arraignment in court.
The National Police Service praised the public and the officers involved for their quick response. The police also urged members of the community to continue reporting any unusual or suspicious activity in their areas to help maintain safety.
