Two suspected members of the Al Shabaab terror group have been arrested in Mandera.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the two had planned the abduction foreign nationals working at a sewer line construction site within Mandera township.
The prime suspect, Isaac Abdi Mohamed aka Kharan Abdi Hassan, who recently sneaked into the country from El-ade, Somalia is among those arrested.
Upon interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect was to pay Ksh.100,000 to his local associate, who would assist in the abduction.
This was before he would, alongside Noor Yacob Ali, move the victims to El-ade at a fee of Ksh. 300,000.
Yacob Ali was cornered and arrested at Metameta area in Mandera; with the two due in court over terrorism-related charges.
“The two have been booked in custody undergoing further interrogation for being members of a terrorist group, which is a serious offence under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA),” detectives concluded.
