The 2024 Huawei Seeds for the Future program commenced on June 18, welcoming 25 students from diverse universities.
This initiative seeks to nurture local ICT talent within Kenya’s expanding digital economy by providing participants with a week-long training opportunity in China. By engaging with experts and sharing experiences, students will have the chance to enhance their ICT skills and knowledge on a global scale.
Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala emphasized the Ministry of Education’s commitment to integrating technology into learning processes to facilitate educational advancement.
“The Seeds for The Future program aims at providing Kenyan university students with digital skills training, enabling them to better engage with the most mainstream technologies before entering society, and improving the overall ICT levels,” said Inyangala.
“It is a platform that allows its recipients to exchange ideas, improve their ICT knowledge and practical skills,” she added.
The students will participate in a range of training initiatives, encompassing a 5-day virtual program and a digital tour of Konza Technopolis. Moreover, they will collaborate on a group project focused on leveraging technology to tackle prevalent social and environmental challenges.
Huawei’s Kenya Deputy CEO, Steven Zhang, commended the Ministry of Education and the ICT Authority for their efforts in providing such training programs.
“With the Ministry of Education’s help, we have signed partnership agreements with over 50 academic institutions in Kenya. Meanwhile, ICT Authority has been a partner for Seeds for the Future since our first MoU in 2014, jointly promoting the program,” he stated
Danton Kipkururi, the Seeds for the Future Global Ambassador, described the program as a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about leveraging technology to make a meaningful difference.
