A tragic road accident occurred on Sunday evening in the Makindu area along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, resulting in the loss of two lives.
The accident involved a lorry and a truck, with the lorry traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi and the truck heading in the opposite direction. The collision between the two vehicles was head-on.
The lorry was carrying traders to Makindu town when the accident happened. Twenty-two individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were promptly transported to Makindu Sub County Hospital for medical attention.
Patrick Mutinda, the medical superintendent for Makindu Hospital, reported that the hospital received two deceased individuals and 22 injured patients, with 13 treated as outpatients and released. Nine critically injured individuals were admitted to the hospital, with three of them undergoing surgical procedures.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary, where they await post-mortem examinations.
