Three people have been arrested after Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria responded to complaints over the illegal dumping of hazardous medical waste, an incident that has also uncovered bribery attempts aimed at stopping legal action.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, July 27, 2026, Mosiria said the suspects, who were linked to two clinics, had been handed over to the police and were awaiting court processing by Nairobi County public health officers.
“Honestly speaking, where did we lose our humanity? I responded to complaints about the illegal dumping of medical waste, where three people from two clinics were arrested and handed over to the police. They are now awaiting processing to court by our county public health officers,” Mosiria said.
The county official expressed frustration over what he described as a disturbing disregard for public health, saying the careless disposal of medical waste puts innocent people at risk. Discarded medical materials, especially those exposed to blood or other bodily fluids, can spread infections and pose serious health dangers to children, waste handlers and members of the public who unknowingly come into contact with them.
According to Mosiria, the case took another worrying turn when some of those implicated allegedly tried to influence the outcome by offering bribes through intermediaries.
“They tried to reach out to me through proxies to offer bribes, and some even attempted to use public health officers to influence the process. Unfortunately, some people are willing to accept bribes from individuals involved in such serious acts,” he said.
Mosiria did not identify the facilities involved but maintained that the county government would not be intimidated or persuaded to abandon the case. He said attempts to interfere with investigations only strengthened his resolve to ensure justice is served.
The chief officer also weighed in on the issue of illegal abortions, making it clear that he views the practice as a grave crime. He condemned those behind such operations and warned against anyone shielding them from the law.
“Someone who procures an illegal abortion is no different from a murderer,” he stated.
Mosiria said he would personally follow up on the matter this week to ensure the legal process continues without interference. He stressed that protecting residents from dangerous medical practices remains a top priority for the county administration.
“This week, I will follow up to ensure that the necessary action has been taken to protect the children and other people exposed to this public health hazard,” he said.
He also directed sharp criticism at public officials who allegedly accept kickbacks to overlook illegal activities, warning that corruption not only undermines justice but also endangers lives.
“To those who accept bribes from such facilities and allow them to continue operating while putting innocent lives at risk, you will never have peace and you will forever remain poor eating corruption proceeds,” Mosiria stated.
