Police in Rusinga Island, Homa Bay County, have arrested three persons of interest and seized a consignment of illicit alcohol and drugs following a successful operation on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, officers from Mbita Police Station acted on a tip-off from members of the public and launched a targeted raid against the illegal trade of alcohol and narcotics in the area.

During the operation, officers recovered 42 litres of chang’aa, 29 rolls of cannabis sativa, and 83 packets of uncustomised Supermatch cigarettes. T

The NPS revealed that the persons of interest were immediately arrested and are currently being held at Mbita Police Station, awaiting court proceedings.

“The exhibits have been secured at the station, and the suspects will be arraigned once investigations are complete,” said the statement.

Police further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing timely information to support crime prevention efforts.

This comes a few weeks after police in Nyamira County arrested a woman and seized a large consignment of illicit brew following a raid on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was conducted by officers from Keroka Police Station following a tip-off from members of the public.

Acting on the information, police raided a homestead in Ichuni Sub-Location, where they found 500 litres of Chang’aa and an additional 20 litres of Kangara, a key ingredient used in brewing the illicit liquor.

The authorities said the person of interest was taken into custody and escorted to the police station, where she is expected to face charges in court. The recovered alcohol was placed under secure custody pending further investigations.

Police praised residents for sharing timely information that led to the successful recovery of the illegal liquor. Authorities have urged the public to continue working closely with security agencies in the fight against illicit brews, which remain a major threat to public health and safety in the region.

“Today, 21st September 2025, police officers from Keroka Police Station, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided a homestead in Ichuni Sub-Location. They discovered five hundred (500) litres of Chang’aa and twenty (20) litres of Kangara,” the police said.
