4 arrested as police seize over 10 litres of chang’aa

Four people have been arrested in Luanda after police discovered them with over 10 litres of illegal brew commonly known as Chang’aa.

In a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Thursday, December 4, 2025, the operation was carried out by officers from the Luanda Police Station while on routine patrol.

During the operation, the individuals were found in possession of the illicit brew and immediately taken into custody. The authorities also secured the confiscated Chang’aa at the police station for further processing.

The arrested individuals are now undergoing processing and are expected to be arraigned in court. The police have emphasised that this action is part of a broader effort to eliminate illicit brews and narcotic substances from the community.

The National Police Service (NPS) said it remains committed to ensuring public safety and discouraging the production and consumption of illegal alcohol, which poses serious health risks to the public.

“Yesterday, officers from Luanda Police Station on patrol conducted a successful operation against illicit brews and narcotics within the Luanda area and arrested four individuals for possession of over 10 litres of illicit brew known as ‘Changaa’,” NPS stated.

Adding;

“The suspects were taken to the station and placed in custody for processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured in the same facility. The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to eradicating illicit brews and narcotic drugs within the community.”

This comes days after police in Kendu Bay seized 94 rolls of cannabis sativa and 37 litres of chang’aa during a focused security operation in Rachuonyo West Sub-County.

The authorities confirmed that the exercise was conducted in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

“Police officers from Kendu Bay Police Station, in collaboration with National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), conducted an intensive operation against illicit brews and narcotic drugs on 25th November 2025 in the Kakoth Kataa area of Rachuonyo West Sub-County,” the statement read in part.

During the crackdown, officers intercepted two individuals who were allegedly transporting and storing the illegal substances.

“During the operation, two suspects were arrested after being found in joint possession of 94 rolls of cannabis and 37 litres of Chang’aa,” the National Police Service stated.
