Speaking in his office, Kilifi County Commissioner Josphat Biwott said over 255 raids have been made since the operation kicked off.

He disclosed that already, 150 non-compliant alcoholic outlets have been closed.

“The operation is on course as per the government directive. No stone will be left unturned in the operation. We are cooperating with our officers from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), Anti- Counterfeit Authority (ACA) and the County Government Liquor Licensing officers,” he said.

Biwott said over 9,345 litres of illicit brews were destroyed during the operation.

“We have managed to destroy over 195 litres of Chang’aa, 7,665 litres of Kangara and 1485 litres of Mnazi, the culprits abetting consumption of the brew will be paraded in various courts within the county to face charges,” said Biwott.

Those arrested during the crackdown included brewers and revellers who were found drinking by the law enforcement agencies.
