5 seriously injured in Narok-Bomet road accident

Five people have been left with serious injuries while a driver is dead following a road accident involving a Toyota Hiace Matatu and Mitsubishi Fuso Lorry on Narok-Bomet road.

According to the National Police Services, the accident happened in Tegero area at 1:15 a.m. with the matatu belonging to the Transcar Galaxy Sacco and the lorry colliding head-on.

The Police revealed that the driver of the matatu died on the while five more passengers who were on board ended up with serious injuries and are currently being treated at Narok County Referral Hospita

“A tragic road traffic accident occurred today 08/01/24 at about 0115hrs at Tegero area along Narok-Bomet road involving a Toyota Hiace matatu belonging to Transcar Galaxy Sacco and Mitsubishi Fuso lorry after a head-on collision,” the Police said.

“As a result, the matatu driver was fatally injured on the spot while five passengers were seriously injured and eleven passengers slightly injured. The injured were rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital,” the Police added

“NPS Officers from Ololulunga Police Station are processing the scene of the accident,” the statement concluded.

It is the second reported accident within three days. Another road incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, resulting in one fatality.

The collision transpired in the Mustard area and involved four vehicles, comprising three Isuzu motor vehicles and a Mercedes Benz trailer.

Statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority indicate that the year 2023 has witnessed 4,139 lives lost due to road crashes.

Although this figure represents a decrease from the 4,517 fatalities recorded in the preceding year, it underscores the ongoing challenge of road safety. Additionally, data from January 1 to December 20, 2023, reveals that a total of 21,684 individuals were involved in road accidents during this period.
