A five-year-old year girl died in an accident that involved a Migori County government-owned ambulance at Oyuma trading centre in Suna East sub-county.

Confirming the incident, Migori County police Commander Mark Wanjala said the driver of the ambulance that was moving towards Migori town lost control of the vehicle and hit the girl that was playing right on the verandah of their house at the trading centre.

Wanjala said the minor died on the spot and the body was moved to the Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary pending police investigations.

The police commander said they are yet to establish what transpired before the fatal accident adding that investigations are already underway.

He said the driver of the ambulance who sustained injuries was alone in the vehicle when the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, the county police commander has appealed to all road users to adhere to the traffic rules and also remain cautious to avoid accidents.

One of the area residents who claimed that the suspect began digging the tunnel in 2017 stated that the suspect and his victim had an argument about the condition of the tunnel before he went missing. "The two had quarrelled after the man stopped his father from cutting the Napier grass around the tunnel," Johnson Mutembei a resident told a local publication. The suspect is currently in custody pending arraignment in court to face murder charges. "We have arrested a man who is suspected to have killed his father, cooked part of the body and hidden some in a tunnel," Muthambi Sub-County Police Commander stated.
