A 50-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, after he alerted airport officials that he was carrying a bomb.

Police say Harrison Njenga Kiarie shouted at staff at the Moi International Airport that he was in possession of an explosion causing panic and fear. At the time, his luggage was been screened for departure.

The staff alerted police officers who arrested him. When police searched his bag, they found a bomb.

This prompted the officers to conduct a search across the airport and specifically where the suspect had been.

Police are yet to establish the motive behind the whole incident. Meanwhile, Njenga is cooling his heels in police custody pending arraignment in court.

The incident comes amidst a spate of explosive attacks on security officials operating across the Somali border.

The most recent incident occurred on Friday, February 24, 2023, when two policemen were killed after their vehicle drove over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Dadaab-Garissa main supply route in Hagarbul area, Garissa county.

North Eastern regional police commander George Seda who confirmed the incident noted that four officers were onboard when the vehicle hit the explosive device.
