A 45-year-old man in Nyahururu town has been arrested for reportedly stabbing to death a woman he had been living with for years and seriously injuring her grandson during a brawl early Wednesday, June 12.
Rose Osomo, 31, reported the incident to authorities, prompting a response team to the property where they discovered the aftermath of the violent encounter.
According to a police report, the altercation occurred between 52-year-old Beatrice Nyandigo and her long-time partner, 45-year-old John Mungai, at their home in the KCC neighborhood. Nyandigo was found dead with knife wounds to her back and chest, while her 10-year-old grandson suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest, face, arms, legs, and abdomen.
“The grandson was rushed to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital where he is undergoing treatment, though in serious condition,” the police report stated.
After the incident, Mungai attempted to flee but was pursued by boda boda riders, forcing him to seek refuge at the police station.
“At the station, he fell down and officers manning the station noticed that he also had injuries on his chest. He was rushed to the same facility and is undergoing treatment while being guarded. The scene was documented by crime personnel, and the body, with several stab injuries on the back and chest, was taken to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy,” the report added.
Additionally, a kitchen knife suspected to be the murder weapon has been collected as evidence.
