Six illegal firearms and 27 rounds of ammunition have been voluntarily surrendered to police officers at Embobut Police Station by six individuals from Kipchumwa, Wewe, Endul, and Maron sub-locations in Marakwet Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

In a post on their X account on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that the voluntary surrender marks significant progress in the ongoing disarmament exercise.

“So far, 299 illegal firearms, 2,173 rounds of ammunition, and one fragmentation rifle grenade have been surrendered voluntarily in Elgeyo Marakwet County,” NPS stated.

The NPS thanked the communities in the area for their support towards Operation Rudisha Bunduki and encouraged continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

“The National Police Service commends the communities in the area for their immense support towards Operation Rudisha Bunduki and encourages continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies in promoting peace and security in the area,” the police said.

The police highlighted that the voluntary surrender of firearms is an important step in promoting safety and security within the county. By reporting or handing in illegal weapons, the public contributes directly to the success of the operation.

The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to the disarmament programme, encouraging more residents to come forward.

The surrender comes days after President William Ruto urged residents living with illegal firearms to voluntarily hand them over, promising forgiveness for compliance.

Speaking during a tour in Baringo on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, he emphasised his administration’s commitment to ending long-standing insecurity fuelled by illegal guns.

He warned that those who fail to comply will face swift action while reassuring residents that additional police officers have been deployed to restore order.
