Police in Athi River Machakos county are investigating an incident where a six-month-old baby lost her life after a fire incident.
While confirming the unfortunate incident, police noted that the infant was trapped inside the house with her 17-year-old mother when the fire broke out.
Police were able to rescue the two, however, the baby succumbed to her injuries shortly after the rescue operation. The mother on the other hand is currently admitted at a nearby health facility after sustaining 70 percent burns.
Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire.
“She has almost 70 per cent of burns which we deem serious and life-threatening but we hope for the best,” police said.
Separate incident
Elsewhere in Nairobi, police are burning the midnight oil investigating a fire incident that damaged ten cars parked at garages along Wanyee Road, Dagoretti corner.
The cars had been taken to the garages for repairs.
According to Nairobi county police boss Adamson Bungei, the fire broke out at one of the garages before it spread out to the other neighbouring garages.
During the first incident where the fire started, three Subarus were burnt down to ashes.
Similarly, a Toyota Town Ace, VW Toureg and a Toyota Landcruiser were also affected in a separate garage.
A Landcruiser V8, one Nissan B14, a Nissan B12, a Mitsubishi Pajero and two spraying pumps were also destroyed in another garage.
