Police in Athi River Machakos county are investigating an incident where a six-month-old baby lost her life after a fire incident.

While confirming the unfortunate incident, police noted that the infant was trapped inside the house with her 17-year-old mother when the fire broke out.

Police were able to rescue the two, however, the baby succumbed to her injuries shortly after the rescue operation. The mother on the other hand is currently admitted at a nearby health facility after sustaining 70 percent burns.

Police are yet to establish the cause of the fire.

“She has almost 70 per cent of burns which we deem serious and life-threatening but we hope for the best,” police said.
