A 60-year-old man died by suicide after hanging himself from the roof rafter in Kirinyaga county.
His death followed a complaint of alleged extramarital affairs by his wife which he had reported to area chief Henry Kariuki.
The chief stated that the man had visited his office to complain about the affair before he took his life.
He said, the deceased had also attacked his wife with a panga and she was rushed to the hospital where she was treated and discharged.
“The matter was reported at Wang’uru police station,” Kariuki said.
According to Mwea East, sub-county police commander Daniel Kitavi, the deceased was expected to record a statement over the attack when he was found dead.
“Some of the witnesses who saw him attacking his wife have recorded statements,” Kitavi said.
The chief further noted that the man was in distress over the infidelity where he claims she was having an affair with a young tomato vendor in the village.
“We didn’t think things would end this way because he had said he had decided to leave the two to do whatever they wanted,” Kariuki said.
Villagers expressed shock over the turn of events with the deceased’s brother saying, “he was shocked to find out his wife was having a love affair with a man younger than his son.”
