Four people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old Australian national in Namwacha village, Bungoma County.
The deceased’s wife Lilian Mikasia aged 33 years is believed to have colluded with the suspects who killed Australian Hewitt Peter John after invading his house on Tuesday night.
Bungoma Police Commander Francis Kooli said officers rushed to the scene and found that the deceased had been fatally injured and was lying on his back in the living room close to the main door.
It was further established that the homestead is guarded by Claverton Mbuya who informed the police that the wife to the deceased has been away for a long period of time and only came back on Tuesday at around 6:30 pm and that the couple has had long family disputes.
According to Mbuya, the wife requested him to have a stroll within the compound but the guard declined. Then all of sudden, an unknown number of people came in and attacked the deceased after snatching the guard’s phone.
Following a police investigation, three suspects were apprehended including Zablon Wafula Nyukuri, Emanuel Simiyu and John Bwile Wakwabubi.
The police also recovered Ksh.14,700, one Oppo mobile phone, a wallet and a foreigner identity certificate card which are all properties of John.
Another Itel mobile phone belonging to Mbuya was also found at the scene alongside a blood-stained machete which was kept as an exhibit.
The body has since been moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
