An Eldoret court has handed a 20 year jail term to a 66-year-old herdsman who defiled a 12 year old girl after luring her with Ksh.10 worth mandazi in his rental house.
Eldoret senior resident magistrate Daniel Sitati while handing the sentence to Ezekiel Ebonyo Emoni described him as an unremorseful person even after the prosecution proved the case against him.
Emoni is said to have defiled the minor between February 15 and 16, 2021 at Ngurunga area in Kapsoya estate, in Uasin Gishu county.
Emoni in his mitigation shocked the court when he said that the minor’s mother fixed him over the long standing differences he has been having with her.
During the trial, the victim had narrated to the court how the convict lured her to his house with mandazi on her way to a shop where she had been sent by her mother.
The court heard that while on her way to the shop, she met the convict, who was well known to her grandfather in their estate before enticing her with Mandazi as he dragged her to his house and closed the door.
Medical examination report from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret confirmed that the minor was defiled.
The convict has 14 days to appeal.
