Detectives in Kiambu have arrested seven suspects over stupefying and illegal mobile money transactions in the Nairobi metropolitan region.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Thursday night incident occurred when the complainant was drinking liquor at one of the entertainment joints along Thika Road.

The seven among them four men and three women allegedly teamed up to drug a male victim and sim-swap his mobile cards before sweeping his mobile and bank accounts clean of Ksh.250,000.

Moses Munene Mwangi and Lephines Mwangi Mwai are said to have been in charge of sim swapping, Maureen Wambui Wanjohi, Purity Wamaitha Njuguna and Jemimah Muiya Mitau drugged the victim while Issac Kanini Mugo and James Omwenga made the money transfers.

“In a well-calculated move targeting the seemingly cash-rich victim, two of the male suspects, Moses Munene Mwangi and Lephines Mwangi Mwai fraudulently registered several sim cards used to swap the victim’s cards, while the crime-prone damsels cajoled him to down spiked frothy waters,” DCI stated.

After the victim reported the incident at DCI HQS – Serious Crimes office, sleuths immediately swang into action and traced Munene and Mwangi at Kahawa West before the three women linked to Ksh.110,000 of the stolen amount were smoked out from their Githurai 44 hideout.
