Caleb Odanga, the 7-year-old Grade One pupil at Greens Angels Academy who fell from a merry-go-round swing while on a school trip, has died.

Caleb passed on after staying on a life support machine in hospital for three weeks.

Following the accident which occurred at Destiny Gardens in Ruiru, the pupil suffered a traumatic brain injury and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

Doctors at the facility explained to the family that their son had no realistic chance of cure and no medical interventions would reverse the situation.

The medics hence advised Caleb’s kin to pull the plug, in simple terms, withdraw the life support.

The family however clung on to hope until their son breathed his last on Friday.

Before the devastating news, the family had been hopping from one hospital to another seeking other opinions from surgeons. Just a week ago, the family was considering flying their son to India.

The family, which is now left with a huge hospital bill in excess of Ksh.1.5 million, is appealing to well wishers to help them settle the bill as they begin to lay their only son to rest.

The boy’s family previously blamed the school administration for turning its back on them after the accident.

The director of the school however dismissed the claims, stating that the institution was willing to assist the family in every way.
