Police in collaboration with the provincial administration have launched an investigation into the death of an elderly woman aged 78 years who was killed in her house at Akoko village in Migori County.

Area Assistant Chief John Kerry Otieno said the body of the deceased identified as Gaudensia Akumu Madanje was found lying in the house by her grandson who was back home for the lunch break.

Otieno said the grandson said he spoke with the grandmother in the morning when he left for school and she was in good condition.

The area Assistant chief said they suspect that the elderly woman was killed by a ground man from Tanzania.

He said the body of the deceased had multiple injuries and there was evidence that the deceased was struggling with the killer before she died.

Otieno said the groundsman who is the main suspect escaped to an unknown hideout saying that they are still looking for him. He said the motive of the killing has not been established.

Meanwhile the area Assistant chief has appealed to the local residents to ensure that they take the details of anybody they employ as a groundsman and maid.
