A police officer attached to the Murkan police post in Narok County is accused of hitting and killing an 84-year-old man.

The officer reportedly hit the man, who was seated outside a shop at Murkan trading centre in Emurua Dikirr.

According to Trans Mara East sub-county police boss Boniface Kavoo, the deceased immediately succumbed to injuries from the accident.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Emurua Dikirr medical facility while the body of the deceased was moved to Longisa hospital mortuary.

A boda boda rider who witnessed the incident and sought anonymity said the officer was driving recklessly considering the distance between the road and the spot where the old man was seated.

The police boss said all due process would be followed so that justice is served.

Following the incident, transport along Murkan -Dikirr road was paralyzed for closed to 3 hours on Wednesday after Boda boda riders barricaded the road accusing the officer of recklessness.

“He always drives his car without respect to other road users. We are demanding justice, he shouldn’t be transferred before being brought before the court,” said one of the riders.
