A Kisii family buried their daughter in heartbreaking circumstances on what should have been a season of joy, after Judy Moraa died just four months before her scheduled wedding.

The funeral was held in Matierio village, Bobasi, Kisii County, where mourners gathered to pay their final respects to a woman who had been eagerly anticipating her December 20, 2026 wedding.

Wedding preparations were already in full swing when Moraa fell ill and was admitted to Bosongo Hospital, where doctors placed her in the intensive care unit on more than one occasion before she succumbed.

Those who knew her said her stomach had become notably swollen in her final days, a condition that proved fatal. She passed away on August 26, 2026.

Bridal Team Bids Farewell in Wedding Attire

In a deeply moving tribute, members of the bridal party chose to wear the dresses and suits that had been set aside for the wedding.

The sight of the bridal team dressed for a celebration they would never have sent fresh waves of grief through the gathering, turning the funeral tent into a place of profound sorrow.

Moraa’s partner, Mathew Ocharo, with whom she shared a son, was visibly inconsolable throughout the ceremony.

Friends and family members took turns holding him close as he broke down repeatedly, unable to find composure while bidding farewell to the woman he had been weeks away from marrying.

Mathew Ocharo’s Heartbreak

One of the most affecting moments came when Ocharo sang a song he had personally composed for Moraa. His voice, heavy with grief, reduced many in attendance to tears as he performed the tribute in her honour.

The moment, captured in photos and videos that began circulating online after her body arrived home, quickly drew attention and sympathy from across the country.

Faces throughout the gathering reflected the weight of a loss that felt particularly cruel given the proximity to what was meant to be a joyous milestone.

For Ocharo, the funeral marked not only the death of the woman he loved but the end of the life they had been building together. Judy Moraa is survived by Mathew Ocharo and their son.
