A Kericho county secondary school teacher who had been reported missing for several days has been found dead, with her body retrieved from Kimugu River bearing multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Martina Chepkemoi Rutto, a Kiswahili and History teacher at Lalagin Secondary School in Litein, Bureti Sub-county, was reported missing on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
A friend had circulated a missing person flyer on social media, appealing for information about her whereabouts and urging the public to report any leads to the nearest police station.
Body discovered at Kericho District Hospital Mortuary
The friend who had shared the missing person appeal later confirmed to TUKO.co.ke that Martina had been found dead.
“She has been found but dead. We found the body at the Kericho District Hospital mortuary today but she was discovered that Wednesday. She was found far from home and murdered. Right now we are at the police station writing statements,” the friend said, clarifying that they got the information from the mortuary.
According to the source, Martina was found with five stab wounds to the chest.
Her body was retrieved from the scene by local law enforcement and transferred to a mortuary, where it awaits a formal post-mortem examination.
“Yes it is true she has stab wounds,” she confirmed.
