Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has once again found himself at the centre of online chatter, this time over a birthday tribute to Mama Ngina Kenyatta that left many Kenyans scratching their heads.

Salasya shared the post on Wednesday, September 2, wishing the former First Lady an early birthday as she allegedly prepared to turn 93 the following day.

What did Salasya tell Mama Ngina?

The problem? Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s birthday is on June 24, meaning the post was more than two months off the mark.

The message read:

“Happy birthday in advance as you turn 93 years old come tomorrow Mama Ngina Mama wa Taifa. You gave us Jayden Uhuru Kenyatta – 4th President, the highly respected leader in this republic of Kenya.”

Accompanying the post was a video showing a lively indoor gathering, most likely a church or community function.

A group of cheerful women can be seen singing as Mama Ngina cuts into a two-tiered cake, the whole scene carrying a warm, festive energy.

However, the timing of Salasya sharing the footage raised more questions than answers about the occasion being celebrated.

Social media users were quick to weigh in, with reactions ranging from playful jabs to genuine birthday wishes:

@queenie_diana_mawesley:

“Ati? She was born in June.”

@Kelvolution Muziq:

“She looks younger than my girlfriend, born in 2000.”

@Caroline Caroline Kanaga:

“Happy birthday, and many more years to come.”

@Babullah Makanya:

“Happy birthday.”

Salasya has built a reputation as one of Kenya’s more colourful politicians, known for his candid social media presence and moments that tend to generate conversation across the country.

This latest post has added another chapter to that reputation, with many followers unsure whether the September tribute was a genuine mix-up or something else entirely.
