Heartbreak as Missing Kericho Teacher Found Dead Day After She Disappeared

Grief has swept through Kericho after Martina Chepkemoi Ruto, a Kiswahili teacher at Lalagin Secondary School in Litein, was found dead just one day after her family raised the alarm over her disappearance.

Chepkemoi was last seen at Lalagin Secondary School on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

When she failed to return home, her worried family and colleagues circulated a missing-person poster appealing to anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward or contact the nearest police station.

Discovery at a Kimugu River in Kericho

Her body was subsequently recovered from Kimugu River in Kericho, bringing the search to a devastating end. Authorities noted that she had reportedly sustained a stab wound to the chest, casting a dark shadow over the circumstances of her death.

The matter has been reported to police, and investigations are ongoing to establish what happened and to identify those allegedly responsible.

The sudden loss of the young teacher has left her family, fellow educators and the broader Litein community in mourning. Colleagues who had helped circulate her missing-person poster were among those struck hardest by the news.

The tragedy drew an outpouring of condolences and anger on social media, with many users demanding swift action from investigators.
