A Kenyan family has been plunged into double grief after James Njoroge, brother of murdered receptionist Jackline Wangui Njoroge, was found dead in a thicket near his home in Muchatha, Yamogo village, just one day after his sister’s burial.
Jackline’s badly decomposed body had been [discovered in the Kagto area of Nakuru on August 26, 2026, several days after she went missing. A postmortem examination confirmed she had been strangled and sustained fractured ribs.
The Nakuru County Police Commander characterised the killing as a “well-coordinated murder incident.”
Njoroge views Jackline’s body
The discovery hit her brother hard. After viewing Jackline’s body at the mortuary, Njoroge showed visible signs of psychological distress.
A family spokesperson said he complained of intense headaches and was taken to hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with depression, prescribed medication, and recommended bed rest.
He never rested. On September 1, 2026, Njoroge disappeared from home without a trace. His sister was buried on Thursday, September 3, while his whereabouts remained unknown to the family.
Where was Njoroge found?
One day after the burial, neighbours picked up a foul smell coming from a thicket roughly 800 metres from his home and alerted authorities.
The body recovered there was later identified as Njoroge’s. Police subsequently found a note inside his house.
The loss has left those close to him searching for meaning in their final exchanges with him.
A family member shared Njoroge’s last words to TUKO.co.ke and mourned him publicly, writing: “Wah Jimmy 😭😭😭. Why now? Why did you tell me to record, as you appreciated me saying, ‘Thank you for your inspiration’. Why did we discuss this?”
Police continue to investigate Jackline’s murder
The post captured the disbelief of a family that had barely begun mourning one member before losing another.
Within the space of barely two weeks, the Njoroge family buried both Jackline and James.
Police continue to investigate Jackline’s murder, which authorities have described as planned and deliberate.
