A 52-year-old man from Kedowa Kimugul village in Kipkelion East, Kericho County, is fighting for his recovery while his family battles a hospital bill they have no means to clear on their own.
Japhet Koskei was walking along Londiani Junction on August 27, 2026, when a vehicle allegedly struck him and sped away without stopping to assist.
The hit-and-run left him critically injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
Three Surgeries, One Million Shillings
Koskei was rushed to Kericho South Rift Hospital, where doctors have since performed three major operations. His injuries are extensive: his spleen was removed, his bladder was damaged, and he sustained three fractures in his right leg, affecting the femur, knee, tibia, and fibula.
The cumulative hospital bill now stands at KSh 1,035,551. A recent community fundraiser offered some relief, but only KSh 46,000 was collected, leaving the family short by nearly KSh 990,000.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Koskei pleaded with leaders and members of the public for help, directing a specific appeal to Belgut MP Hon. Nelson Koech.
“Naomba mnisaidie gari iliniumiza sana nikiwa kando ya barabara, mkiona Sonko MP ambieni anisaidie,” he said.
The family has already sold off most of what little they own to meet rising medical costs. His son, Kirui, captured their desperation in a few words.
“Shamba yenye iko ni kidogo tunaomba mtusaidie,” Kirui said.
Family Reaches Out to Well-Wishers
Despite their difficult circumstances, Koskei has not given up hope. He extended an open invitation to anyone willing to offer support in person.
“Any well-wisher can also visit me in hospital,” he said.
The family is appealing to Hon. Nelson Koech, local leaders, friends and members of the public to help clear the outstanding bill so that Koskei can continue receiving treatment without interruption.
