Kenyan TikTok creator Derrick Angwenyi Oyengo, widely known online as Derrick Omollo, was laid to rest on Friday, September 18, in Marani, Kisii county, in an emotional ceremony that left mourners visibly shattered.

Omollo was just 20 years old at the time of his death.

He was a student at JKUAT and had built a following on TikTok that earned him recognition among Kenya’s growing community of young content creators.

What happened at Derrick Omollo’s burial?

Reports indicate that Omollo was walking with a group of friends in Juja when they encountered suspected thieves.

While attempting to flee the attackers, he fell into a quarry and sustained injuries that proved fatal.

Footage shared on Instagram captured the raw grief of the burial, with mourners gathered among trees and greenery as the casket was lowered into the ground.

The most heartbreaking moment came when his mother collapsed in anguish and had to be held up by several people around her.

“Baba, you have left me alone. You decided to leave your mother like this,” she cried, her words cutting through the sombre crowd.

The footage, overlaid with memorial cards bearing Omollo’s name and the years 2006 to 2026, quickly spread across social media, drawing thousands of reactions from Kenyans who were moved by the scenes.
