A family in Ndeiya, Kiambu County has been reunited with their missing relative after TikToker Mbote Njogu traced him to Kalokol, a small town on the shores of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya, roughly 750 kilometres from home.
The man had been gone for three months, with his family and villagers sharing his photographs on social media in a desperate search for leads.
The breakthrough came when a member of the public reached out to the family after spotting the man in Kalokol, Turkana County.
How did Kiambu man get to Turkana
After receiving the tip-off, Mbote set off on Friday night and arrived at the shores of Lake Turkana the following morning.
“This guy went missing 3 months ago with no trace (mental issues). After the family and the villagers shared his photo on social media, someone contacted the family that he had seen him in a town called Kalokol in northern Kenya,” said Mbote.
He shared photographs of himself standing alongside the man and others in the area, visibly engaged in conversation about the circumstances that had brought him so far from home.
When asked how he had travelled such a vast distance, the man told those present that he had made the journey entirely on foot, covering approximately 750 kilometres through some of Kenya’s most rugged terrain.
Mbote also noted that the man appeared to be struggling with his mental health and would require proper care and support upon his return.
“We started our journey on Friday night and today in the morning arrived at the shores of Lake Turkana, and we will be bringing him home. He says he came on foot (750km). Unity ya Ndeiya huwa ingine,” Mbote wrote on Facebook.
Family Set to Reunite with Missing Relative
Mbote confirmed that the man would be brought back home to Kiambu, crediting the power of community solidarity and social media for making the reunion possible.
His Facebook post drew attention to how a collective effort, from locals sharing images online to a stranger making a crucial phone call, ultimately led to the man being found alive.
The story has shone a light on the importance of community vigilance, particularly for families dealing with relatives who may be living with mental health conditions.
