“We urgently need to build climate resilience and early warning systems,” she wrote, adding that the recent UN resolution recognising climate protection as a binding legal duty for all states was an encouraging step, though she stressed that legal frameworks must be matched by structural fairness.
Ida also echoed President Ruto’s call for permanent and equitable African representation on the UN Security Council.
“We can no longer just be spoken for; we must have an equal voice in the decisions shaping global peace, security, and environmental policy,” she wrote.
She balanced her global demands with a call for accountability at home, urging African nations to manage resources prudently, strengthen institutions, and “unequivocally confront corruption.”
