Political activist Morara Kebaso took to X, to share before-and-after photos of a mud house he says he completely rebuilt for the family of his estranged wife, Mercy Makini, in the Gionseri area of Bobasi, Kisii county.
The images show a striking contrast: the original structure was a modest clay-walled home with a rusting corrugated iron roof and barred windows, set against bare soil.
The rebuilt house is a sturdy single-storey brick home with a red roof, large black-framed windows, a proper staircase entrance, and green surroundings, with a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado parked outside.
Morara on building house for in-laws In his post, Morara went into remarkable detail about the project, naming every person and supplier involved.
His foreman, he said, was Joshua from Kisii, the head fundi Sammy from Nyeri, and the plumbing was handled by Andrew from Kakamega. He sourced mabati from Ruiru and tiles from KEDA and had gypsum work done by a man named Edwin.
He even picked out the curtains himself from a supplier called Husain in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
“I sourced the fundis myself. I built it up from foundation to finish and furnished it. I can even tell you where I bought everything,” he wrote, adding that he travelled to Kisii almost every week to supervise the build.
Morara said he made the deliberate choice to build for Mercy’s parents before his own, a decision he frames as one of loyalty and sacrifice.
“When I met Mercy this was her parent’s house. By then I had not built a house for my parents. But I made a decision that we will build for her parents first,” he wrote.
Why Morara and Mercy are beefing
The post did not arrive in a vacuum. Morara and Mercy have been engaged in a very public dispute, with Mercy previously responding to claims about their marriage, including addressing questions about polygamy and her reasons for leaving the relationship.
Morara’s detailed account of the house construction appears to be his rebuttal to criticism levelled at him during the ongoing fallout.
He also addressed those calling for a boycott of a business connected to him, urging people to think about where the money to start that venture came from.
“Appreciate the source ndio abarikiwe zaidi biashara zingine zinafunguliwa kupitia kwa mikono yake,” he wrote. Signing off,
Morara pushed back against what he described as a lack of respect for men who quietly invest in their partners and families.
“What then do you say to a man like me who chose to support Mercy’s parents before his own parents? Wapi ile heshima kidogo mmebakisha ya wanaume kama mimi?” he asked.
