Comedian Stephen Chizema, better known by his alias Kitso, is now a car owner after Zimbabwean billionaire businessman Wicknell Chivayo kept a promise many thought was a throwaway joke.
On Wednesday, September 23, Chizema collected a brand-new 2026 Toyota Aqua alongside KSh 1.3 million in cash, fulfilling a pledge Chivayo had made publicly amid the internet frenzy surrounding his lawyer saga.
Why Chivayo gifted Chizema
The story traces back to Chivayo’s extravagant offer to his former lawyer, Advocate Dr Lewis Uriri, whom he described as a “Senior Counsel par Excellence” for defending him in past legal battles.
Chivayo put together a gift package worth KSh 45 million, which included a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography valued at KSh 32 million, KSh 6.4 million for fuel, and a further KSh 6.4 million as a “handbag allowance” for Uriri’s wife.
In a move that surprised many, Uriri and his wife turned down every element of the package. The lawyer explained that accepting such a large unsolicited gift could compromise his professional independence and create the impression of a financial obligation to his former client.
He cited the Zimbabwe Legal Practitioners’ Code of Conduct and international bar principles in justifying his decision, noting that he had not handled any legal work for Chivayo since June 2024 and that all previous services had been fully paid for.
The rejection sparked a wave of comedy online, with Chizema producing a skit that captured the absurdity of the exchange.
Chivayo apparently found it hilarious and, in the spirit of his well-documented generosity, joked that he would give the comedian a Toyota Aqua for making him laugh.
Few expected him to follow through. He did follow through. Chizema was photographed collecting the car keys and the KSh 1.3 million, with the moment shared widely on social media under the caption “Pledge fulfilled!”
