The stream is designed specifically for individuals who make regular trips to Australia, whether for leisure, business, or personal reasons, rather than those planning a single visit.
Which 11 Countries Are Eligible
Only citizens of the following countries qualify for the Frequent Traveller Stream: China, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Timor-Leste.
No other nationalities are included under this particular pathway.
The concentration of eligible nations within Southeast and East Asia reflects Australia’s deep travel and trade relationships with its nearest regional neighbours.
What the Visa Allows and Requires
Approved applicants receive a visa valid for up to 10 years. Each individual stay in Australia is limited to three months, but holders can return as often as their circumstances require within that period. Permitted activities include tourism, cruising, holidays, visiting family or friends, and conducting business visitor activities.
One requirement that applies to every applicant, regardless of nationality, is the provision of biometric data. Applicants must visit an Australian Biometric Collection Centre to have their biometrics captured.
The Department of Home Affairs recommends completing this step as early as possible, since delays in biometric submission can extend the overall processing time for the application.
Once an applicant submits their visa request, they receive an email with guidance on how and where to complete the biometric collection, along with details about appointment bookings and the operating hours of their nearest centre.
