A Kenyan woman has turned to social media in an emotional plea to track down the doctor who walked her family through one of the most painful chapters of their lives, and whose kindness ultimately shaped the professional she became.
Rachel Kerubo Orora shared her story publicly, asking her followers to help her find Dr John Ngigi, a nephrologist who treated her late mother in the High Dependency Unit approximately six years ago.
Doctor Who Made a Difference
Rachel recalled how Dr Ngigi went beyond the routine duties of his role during her mother’s final days.
He kept the family informed, answered their questions patiently, and explained her mother’s condition in terms they could genuinely understand.
More than that, Rachel said, he made them feel they were not going through the ordeal alone.
“He may not remember me, but I will never forget him,” she wrote. “The kindness and compassion he showed me during one of the darkest moments of my life inspired me to become the kind of healthcare professional that patients and families can depend on.”
Rachel noted that witnessing Dr Ngigi’s care during such a devastating time taught her firsthand just how much it means to stand beside someone when their world feels like it is collapsing around them.
Give People Their Flowers
She now works in healthcare herself, and says the values he modelled for her continue to guide how she shows up for her own patients and their families.
Rather than marking the anniversary of her loss in private, Rachel chose to use the moment to celebrate the man whose humanity left a lasting imprint on her.
She expressed her wish to present Dr Ngigi with flowers in person and asked anyone who knows him to tag him, contact him, or simply pass on a warm hug on her behalf.
“Tell him that Rachel still remembers him and will always be grateful for the kindness he showed her family during her mom’s final days,” she urged.
Rachel also described Dr Ngigi as a highly recommended nephrologist, underscoring that her tribute was not only personal but professional in its admiration.
Research by TUKO.co.ke found that Dr Ngigi is a medical practitioner with 24 years of experience and is a senior medical specialist in Nephrology. He also heads the Renal Department at Kenyatta National Hospital.
